Nissan charger recharge

With the adoption of the new Qi2 wireless charger, Nissan aims to finally improve smartphone charging in cars.

Wireless charging on board often remains a source of disappointment for drivers: poorly positioned phones, unstable power, excessive heat… Nissan wants to turn the page on these irritants by becoming the first automaker to offer Qi2 wireless charging in the United States. This technology will be launched on the 2026 Nissan Pathfinder and 2026 Nissan Murano, expected in early 2026.

The Qi2, a true evolution of wireless charging in cars

The Qi2 standard is immediately distinguished by its elevated magnetic pad, which keeps the smartphone perfectly in place. It is compatible with iPhones starting from model 12, Google Pixels from Pixel 10, as well as Android smartphones with compatible cases.

“Drivers simply place their phone down and instantly know that charging is working,” explains Angela Moon, Senior Manager of Research and Development at Nissan Technical Center North America. This precise positioning is essential: “A shift of just a few millimeters can significantly reduce the effectiveness of wireless charging,” emphasizes Matt Zimmerman, R&D Manager at Nissan.

Active cooling and stabilized power

Another major innovation is the integration of a cooling fan. This limits the temperature rise of the charger and the smartphone, a recurring issue in previous generations. By maintaining a lower temperature, the system prevents charging interruptions and improves overall performance.

The Qi2 charger thus delivers a constant power of up to 15 watts, compared to about 5 watts for many current systems. According to Nissan, the charging time from 10% to 90% can drop from nearly four hours to just over 90 minutes.

A simplified user experience

An LED indicator completes the system: orange for charging in progress, green when the battery is full, and blinking orange in case of foreign objects or poor positioning.
