Tesla faces a new setback!

The anticipated European vote in October on Tesla’s supervised driving system has been postponed, with a potential decision not expected before December.

European Tesla owners will have to wait longer. While the manufacturer had mentioned the possibility of a vote on October 6 regarding its Full Self-Driving system, this prospect is fading. According to Reuters, citing an agenda published by the European Union, the next opportunity to make a decision will not appear before December.

A postponement, not a definitive rejection

The distinction is important: this delay does not mean that the system is definitively rejected. It also does not guarantee an approval in December. For customers hoping for progress this fall, the timeline remains uncertain.

The term Full Self-Driving can also be misleading. The system in question remains supervised: it requires active monitoring by the driver. Its potential approval would not turn personal cars into robotaxis capable of operating without human responsibility at the wheel.

A commercial promise from Tesla

For Tesla, the stakes are higher than just the availability of an additional feature. The manufacturer sees European approval of the FSD as a way to support its sales in a market where it seeks to regain ground against increasing competition, particularly from China. This new delay also pushes back a differentiation argument awaited by the brand.

However, the interest in this technology does not excuse the need to clarify what drivers will actually be able to use. Between demonstrations, announcements, and commercial deployment, several steps remain. For buyers, it is better to assess a car based on its available features at the time of ordering rather than on a hoped-for deadline.

Tesla still has the opportunity to convince European authorities. But, for now, its customers are primarily waiting for a concrete answer: when will they actually be able to benefit from the system, and under what conditions? The October appointment was supposed to provide visibility. Its postponement, on the contrary, extends the uncertainty surrounding one of the brand’s most discussed promises.
