These two accessories are “mandatory” on a Tesla Model Y

In the era of long-term leasing rather than buying, taking care of cosmetic maintenance of your car is a necessity. Otherwise, at the end of the lease, significant restoration costs may be billed by the manufacturer.

This is particularly the case with Tesla, where wheels and bodywork are strangely exposed to everyday hazards. A quick tour of specialized forums reveals the extent of the problem.

For the wheels, discreet plastic spacers can be placed between the very low sidewall tire on Tesla (especially the 20-inch models) and the rim. Then, it’s up to the driver to be careful. But for the bodywork, the driver’s behavior has little influence on the damage.

The curves of the Tesla Model Y, with sharply defined wheel arches, are responsible. In the front, projections caused by the wheels scratch the doors. Gravel, mud, salt, snow, rain… It’s impossible to keep the car clean, even after a few kilometers after leaving the dealership.

This phenomenon is even more pronounced at the rear wheel arches, where the aerodynamic flow projects everything passing under the front wheels. The problem is that gravel or sand (which has an abrasive effect) irreparably damages the bodywork. Therefore, the best solution found so far is to add attachable extensions to limit this damage.

Fenders… just right!

At the front, installing fenders, although not very aesthetic, is necessary. Tesla is aware of this flaw and does not criticize its customers when selling this protection: 2 fenders are only charged at 43 euros and are easy to install yourself. PLEASE NOTE: these fenders modify the aerodynamic profile of the Tesla Model Y and therefore, ultimately, its efficiency. Its range is slightly reduced, as revealed in another article.

At the rear, Tesla wisely drew inspiration from the car famous for its very pronounced hips: the Porsche 911. A transparent film, matching all car colors, should be applied to the lower part of the doors. Again, the cost isn’t exorbitant: 60 euros for both films.
