Renault 4 Jogging: a cheaper version to get sales moving again
With the new Jogging finish, Renault is preparing a more accessible electric R4. A choice that could weigh more on its commercial career than the refinements of higher-end versions. The key question remains: its price.
Nostalgia draws attention, but it doesn’t always trigger a purchase. With 1,180 registrations in France in September, compared to 5,224 for the Renault 5, the electric R4 still lags far behind its little sister’s success. While it wouldn’t be fair to call it a failure, its commercial potential seems still to be explored. To broaden its customer base, a lower price tag is a more concrete argument than new upholstery.
Renault is thus preparing a new entry-level model called Jogging, expected by the end of 2026. Behind this casual name, the formula is rational: a 110 hp engine paired with a 36.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. The announced range reaches 305 km WLTP, which is only five kilometers less than the Evolution with a 40 kWh battery now offered.
The equipment also retains the essentials: manual air conditioning, a 10.1-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rearview camera, and rear parking sensors. Most importantly, fast charging remains standard. With a maximum power of 80 kW, Renault claims a charge from 10 to 80% in 25 minutes. The AC charger is limited to 6.6 kW.
The Essence of the R4?
This Jogging model appears to be better equipped to bring the new R4 closer to the popular vocation of its ancestor. To us, this is the whole point of this evolution: to offer a version whose compromises remain acceptable for daily commuting, in order to convince buyers deterred by the price.
But Renault still keeps the suspense about this last point. Less than €20,000 after subsidies? It should logically be lower than the €22,920 for the Evolution finish, after a €7,070 subsidy, which means €29,990 before aid.

To truly give a boost to sales, the Jogging must therefore offer a sufficiently convincing price difference. A popular car is also judged by the number of customers who can actually afford it.
