Volkswagen ID. Tiguan

Volkswagen is changing its name, but also its approach. Beginning in 2027, the ID.4 and ID.5 will make way for the ID. Tiguan.

For its new electric SUV, the manufacturer is betting on a familiar name and a promise: to make the car easier to live with. French pre-sales will begin on October 13, starting from €43,990.

This electric Tiguan will not replace its thermal and hybrid counterpart, which will continue its career in parallel. Manufactured in Emden, Germany, it is based on the MEB+ platform and adopts a more assertive silhouette, abandoning the rounded lines of its predecessors.

Three configurations are announced: a 190 hp rear-wheel drive with a 58 kWh battery, a 286 hp rear-wheel drive with a 77 kWh battery, and an all-wheel drive 4MOTION version with 299 hp, also equipped with a 77 kWh battery. Volkswagen promises up to 600 km of WLTP range depending on the version, without detailing the charging performance here.

But the most exciting news may be found inside the cabin. Physical buttons are returning on the steering wheel and for the main climate controls. The four windows also feature a redesigned control panel. These changes remind us that good ergonomics are not measured by the number of hidden functions within a screen.

Digital enthusiasts will still find plenty to enjoy: a 10-inch instrument cluster, a 15-inch central screen, and an optional 12-inch passenger display, which is quite interesting. A retro mode even brings back the blue and red instruments from the Golf IV.

On the practical side, Volkswagen announces five seats, a trunk capacity of 534 liters, and a front storage space of 32 liters. Towing capacity rises to two tons. One-pedal driving is standard, while ventilated and massaging seats are among the options.

One crucial question remains: what equipment will actually be included in the starting price? The name alone won’t do everything.
