Models of the brand: Tesla
Expensive, the Model S is not accessible to the majority and capped the brand at 100,000 units in 2017. The Tesla Model 3 addresses this, smaller with a starting price announced at 35,000 dollars. Success was confirmed with 145,000 deliveries in 2018, allowing it to reach 500,000 units per year by 2020. This was aided by the Tesla Model Y, an SUV variant that started in 2019. The industrial capacity of Gigafactory plants had to adapt. The original site in Fremont was joined by those in Shanghai, China at the end of 2019, as well as Berlin (Germany) and Austin (United States) in 2022.
Tesla Model 3 and Model Y
Like the Model S and X, the Model 3 and X continually evolve, with ranges exceeding 600 km in 2022. The onboard technology is also progressing, via the semi-automated driving “Autopilot,” the full versions of which are more expensive, or entertainment features.
A small anecdote, Elon Musk fulfilled his “joke” promise by launching a “SEXY” range. Indeed: Model S, Model 3 (which was supposed to be called 3 but the name was taken by Ford), Model X, and Model Y.
Tesla Electric Vehicles
The electric car brand does not stop at these four models. In 2017, it presented the second generation Tesla Roadster 2, promising 1,000 km of autonomy and astounding performance. However, it is not expected to arrive until 2024. More realistically, the Tesla Semi electric truck is set to start in 2022.
In 2019, the Tesla Cybertruck shocked the automotive world. It proposed an electric pickup aiming to disrupt the norms of this very conventional category. Sharply designed, accessible, with a long range and powerful, it is expected to arrive in North America in 2023.
Tesla Model S: This is the first high-volume car from the American manufacturer, having started in 2012.
Introduction
L’entreprise Tesla Motors est née en 2003 à Palo Alto dans l’État de Californie (États-Unis). Contrairement aux idées reçues, ce sont Martin Eberhard et Marc Tarpenning qui ont lancé ce nouveau constructeur automobile américain entièrement électrique. Elon Musk n’est arrivé qu’après, en 2004 en tant qu’investisseur puis président et enfin PDG en 2008.
Le terme ”Motors” a disparu, car la société s’appelle désormais simplement Tesla. La raison est qu’elle commercialise des solutions d’énergie (recharge Superchargers, panneaux solaires…) en plus de son activité de voitures.
Présentation de la marque : Tesla
La première voiture de la marque fut la Tesla Roadster. Ce n’est pas une conception maison, mais une collaboration avec Lotus fournissant la voiture (une Exige), et incluant la technologie électrique américaine. Elle montre au grand public que l’électrique n’est pas réservé aux voiturettes de golf, avec 4 secondes au 0-100 km/h et plus de 300 km d’autonomie. Dévoilée en 2006, cette voiture découvrable a livré son premier exemplaire en 2008, et au total 2 680 exemplaires jusqu’à 2012.
Tesla Model S 2012 et le Roadster de 2006
Cette année-là, la Tesla Model S sort et devient la véritable première voiture électrique moderne. Grande berline pour 5 personnes dont l’autonomie dépasse 400 km, elle apporte un intérieur épuré à grand écran tactile, dont le système se met à jour à distance. Elle permet aussi les grands voyages, avec l’appui du premier réseau de bornes de recharge rapide Tesla Supercharger. Un dérivé SUV, le Tesla Model X, propose un habitacle plus spacieux, et des portes originales à ouverture papillon.
