Métro RATP Paris

The RATP group plans to carry out thousands of recruitments in the Île-de-France region. Objective: improve a service that has significantly degraded recently.

6,600: that’s the number of people the RATP group intends to hire this year in Île-de-France. This recruitment campaign, described as “unprecedented”, is aimed at finally improving the punctuality of buses and metros, after months of slow service deterioration. Such measures had become essential ahead of two major events, which will at least partly take place in the capital: the 2023 Rugby World Cup and the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Out of the 6,600 positions to be filled, 4,900 are permanent contracts, 1,000 are apprenticeship contracts, and 700 are insertion contracts. The greatest needs concern bus drivers, with 2,700 people to be recruited this year (2,400 for Paris and its inner suburbs, 300 in the outer suburbs). Additionally, RATP is looking to recruit 700 station and station agents, and 400 metro drivers.

Communication actions to raise awareness of RATP’s needs

In the maintenance sector, 400 positions are to be filled (mechanic, technician, electronic technician, etc.). Staffing related to safety must also increase, with 120 hires planned for 2023. RATP also aims to recruit 600 managers and engineers across various fields (digital and cybersecurity, maintenance, infrastructure and industrial systems, operations).

It remains to be seen whether all the positions will actually be filled, as the labor shortage cannot be explained solely by budget cuts. Aware of this issue, RATP plans to expand local partnerships and “sourcing and communication actions” simultaneously.
