What if the most important passenger was the dog? It’s the amusing yet unexpected idea explored by Peugeot with a unique concept.

With its E-5008 Dog Edition Concept, Peugeot playfully imagines a car designed for dogs. Behind this quirky idea lies a genuine reflection on animal welfare and family travel.

At first glance, it’s hard not to smile. An SUV designed with the dog in mind rather than the driver? The idea seems unusual. Yet, with its Peugeot E-5008 Dog Edition Concept, the French manufacturer goes beyond a simple marketing stunt. It presents a design exercise that is as playful as it is relevant, exploring new avenues to improve travel with our four-legged companions.

The topic is far from trivial. According to an IFOP study conducted for the 30 Million Friends Foundation, nearly two out of three dog owners plan to go on vacation with their pet. For many, the dog’s well-being has even become a criterion in choosing the destination. This could inspire a novel approach.

Rather than adding a few accessories to the catalog, the designers at Stellantis Design Studio changed their perspective. They wondered how a dog actually perceives a car journey: what it sees, what it hears, what reassures it, or conversely, what disrupts it. This approach guided the entire development of the concept.

Good dog, good owner

The cabin adopts a color palette inspired by canine vision, dominated by blue and yellow. The materials have been chosen for their softness and grip, while the layout prioritizes the comfort of the animal without forgetting the other occupants.

Some ideas are amusing, like the Window Headrest, a headrest attached to the window that allows the dog to comfortably rest its head while observing the scenery. Others could easily find their place in a production model. This is the case of the modular mattress that moves from the trunk to the backseat before transforming into a crate at a rest stop, ensuring a reassuring continuity for the animal.

The concept also includes a series of well-thought-out accessories: a connected harness, cabin protections, integrated bowls, matching bags for the dog and its owner, a dedicated toy, or even a pet dryer powered by the vehicle’s V2L function, perfect after a walk in the rain or an impromptu swim.

Peugeot even extends the thought into digital services. Navigation could prioritize charging stations located near green spaces so that every stop benefits both the driver and their companion. A Dog Guardian mode would automatically maintain a pleasant temperature in the cabin while allowing remote monitoring when the dog is exceptionally left alone for a few moments. Finally, a Dog Retriever system would devise a specific sound signal to call back a dog that is a bit too curious.

Of course, the Peugeot E-5008 Dog Edition Concept will not make it to dealerships. This unique model has been designed as an idea laboratory. But that is precisely what makes it interesting: beneath its playful appearance, it explores concrete solutions that could inspire the vehicles of tomorrow.
