Technically very close to the upcoming plug-in hybrid Volvo XC60, the Lynk & CO 08 is expected to continue the original long-term leasing model without commitment that contributed to the success of the current model 01.

Like VTCs that revolutionized the way people “consume” short-distance car trips, Chinese Lynk & CO has revolutionized the approach to buying a car, or rather renting one (read our article How Lynk & Co reinvents car rental).

Owned by the automotive giant Geely, just like Volvo, the young manufacturer has adopted all the technical solutions of the Volvo XC40 to develop its SUV Lynk & CO 01 (read our Lynk & CO 01 review), including the highly popular plug-in hybrid architecture in Western countries, especially among corporate fleets.

It even benefited from a larger-capacity battery to improve its 100% electric range. But it is mainly Lynk & CO’s business model that allowed the brand to quickly emerge from obscurity. Indeed, while its model 01 was offered at an unbeatable price, it was primarily marketed with an innovative leasing package.

For €500/month at launch, then €550/month, this all-inclusive package covers the car, maintenance, insurance… and the possibility to cancel at any time! But that’s not all. Through an app, the lessor can also make their car available when not in use to earn money. Lastly, the model benefits from Volvo after-sales service, offering peace of mind especially for those skeptical about Chinese brands’ reliability.

A higher-end positioning and two powertrain options?

The year 2023 will see the arrival of a brand new model. Named Lynk & CO 08, it marks a certain step upmarket, as it now based on the new Volvo XC60, no longer on the XC40.

It will once again feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain, although technical details are not yet known. Rumors suggest that a 100% electric version is also in development.

The interior is expected to be more streamlined compared to the Lynk & CO 01, and like Tesla, it will revolve around a central screen.

The detailed unveiling of the model will take place on March 30, and the Lynk & CO 08 will be one of the stars at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show in mid-April 2023.
