Lynk & Co 08

Expected in Europe for over a year, the Lynk & Co 08 hybrid is finally available with 200 km of electric range.

Owned by the giant Geely, just like Volvo, the brand with the unusual name has adopted all the technical solutions of the Volvo XC40 to develop its first European model, the 01, including the plug-in hybrid architecture. But it is mainly Lynk & Co’s business model that has allowed the brand to quickly emerge from obscurity. Indeed, its model 01 was offered from launch with an innovative leasing scheme. The approach proved a dismal failure against more attractive LOA and LLD offers, but Lynk & Co had already made a name for itself.

Expected at the end of 2023, it is ultimately in 2025 that a brand new model will arrive. Named Lynk & Co 08, it elevates the brand’s positioning, as it is now based on the Volvo XC60, no longer on the XC40.

This is a plug-in hybrid SUV that stands out for its electric range of 200 km in WLTP cycle, and fast charging capabilities via DC current. It is the first vehicle of this type in Europe to offer such performance. It allows for daily 100% electric driving with a few quick recharges and aims for long-distance travel without relying solely on the combustion engine. The best of both worlds, in short. The 08 indeed offers a total range of over 1,100 km thanks to the combination of a thermal engine and a high-performance battery. The fast charging system can go from 10% to 80% capacity in just 33 minutes, facilitating both daily commutes and long trips.

The launch of the 08 fits within Lynk & Co’s strategy to strengthen its presence in Europe, a rapidly evolving market moving toward sustainable mobility solutions that are less restrictive than full electric. This model will be offered in two versions, Core and More, starting at €53,995. Do not rush to the Lynk & Co website, as sales will only commence in June 2025, with options to purchase online or through selected dealerships.

The vehicle’s distinctive lines remain a matter of personal taste. In our view, this is the main flaw of this car, designed three years ago and bearing the marks of age. Hopefully, the manufacturer will not take as long to introduce us to the very appealing small hybrid 06.
