Who is still buying a Tesla Model Y Propulsion?

With only 2000 euros difference between the Model Y Propulsion and the Propulsion Grande Autonomie, why hesitate?

Ahhh, Europe. Let’s talk about it. We love to complain about it, but rarely to praise it. Human nature delights in always seeing the glass half empty. Tesla’s case is striking: depending on the country and the (or lack of) tax benefits, the price of the same car varies. As if by magic.

Thus, the Tesla Model Y Propulsion Grande Autonomie (600 km range), unveiled at the beginning of April 2024, is priced at 46,990 euros in France. Just 10 euros below the critical threshold of 47,000 euros, which qualifies it for an ecological bonus of 4,000 euros. This results in a final price for the customer of 42,990 euros. For comparison, the basic Propulsion version, which has a range 145 km lower (455 km), is priced at 40,990 euros.

At the same time, in Germany, where the ecological bonus has completely disappeared, Tesla no longer seeks to cut its margins. The same Model Y Propulsion Grande Autonomie is offered at 48,990 euros. In contrast, the Propulsion version is priced the same as in France… before the ecological bonus, at 44,990 euros.

2000 euros for 150 km of range!

To keep it simple, Tesla has indeed distinguished the two products in Germany but not in France. The minimal gap of 2000 euros between the Propulsion and Propulsion Grande Autonomie versions in France, versus 4000 euros in Germany, raises the question: why maintain so many options in our catalog?

If you are interested in the Tesla Model Y, do you still consider the Propulsion version due to its 2000 euros lower price? In the used market, what about the interest later on and thus the difficulty of parting with your car?

Tesla thus adds confusion to the confusion, but in any case in France, the customer is not shortchanged. But for how long, as the ecological bonus is set to decrease further in 2025…
