Tesla Model Y: You Will Be Able to Unlock Range by Paying (Official)

Elon Musk stated on social media platform X that he is working on an electronic unlock option for the range of the Tesla Model Y Propulsion.

Not a day goes by without a quirky idea from Elon Musk. One must say that as one piece of information leads to another, we quickly forget about the mass layoffs and other poor business performances. Ideas, ideas, always ideas to occupy media space with new features that aren’t really new.

The new communication from Elon Musk, on his personal account on the social media platform X (which he owns), may please (or not) the owners of Tesla Model Y Propulsion already in circulation. He claims to be having his engineers work on an electronic unlock for the range to add between 40 and 60 miles (from 64 to 96 km) depending on the battery specifications (LG, Panasonic, etc.).

An option whose price is under consideration

Business is business, so Tesla will charge for these few lines of code (as this is essentially what it is…), depending on the battery model, between 1500 and 2000 dollars. In France, we can assume that there will be price parity for simplicity, so between 1500 and 2000 euros. Ultimately, with a current range of 455 kilometers, the Model Y Propulsion could exceed 500 km of range. Would it have more range than the Long Range all-wheel drive version? That would be delightful…

It should be noted that in the United States, the Tesla Model Y Propulsion has disappeared from the catalog since the arrival of the Long Range Propulsion version. There was no longer any economic relevance in having these two versions coexist. Will it soon be the same in other markets, for the sake of industrial rationalization? That is quite possible.
