No more fights at Tesla charging stations!
After months of waiting, Tesla is finally rolling out its virtual queue system to reduce tensions at charging stations.
Tensions around charging stations, whether Tesla or others, are no longer anecdotal. As the number of electric vehicles increases, scenes of endless waiting and altercations between drivers unfortunately become a reality in certain heavily trafficked areas. Tesla has just launched an experimental virtual queue system for its Superchargers in the United States, an initiative that is clearly a step in the right direction.
The American manufacturer is currently testing this feature at five pilot sites, mainly in California and New York. Specifically, when a station is full, drivers can join a waiting list directly from the Tesla app. The app then indicates the number of vehicles in front of them and provides real-time updates on the queue’s status.
Finally a Good Initiative
This new feature has been awaited for many months. Tesla announced back in 2025 the upcoming arrival of such a system, following the viral spread of a video showing Tesla owners physically fighting for access to a charging station. However, it ultimately took more than a year before the brand finally rolled out this solution.
This delay illustrates how crucial the issue of station congestion is becoming. Even though Tesla claims that saturation situations are limited to about 1% of charging sessions, this still represents hundreds of thousands of cases each year on a global scale. With the gradual opening of the Supercharger network to other car brands, traffic can only increase.
Certainly, the current system still relies on users’ civility, as Tesla technically does not block a driver who wishes to bypass others. But this first step already appears to be a welcome advancement.

If the experiment proves successful – which we have no doubt it will – this solution should quickly be standardized across the entire Tesla network and likely inspire other operators worldwide. And of course, France will also have to address this issue, as the electric charging of tomorrow will hinge as much on the power of charging stations as on intelligent user flow management. Let’s just hope that the next step isn’t VIP fast-pass options…
