Barq scooter électrique cargo

This electric scooter straight from the Middle East will enter production by the end of the year.

Based in the United Arab Emirates, the company Barq develops green mobility solutions to address urban delivery issues. It has just introduced an interesting electric scooter, the Rena Max.

While most two-wheelers designed for delivery are not exactly models of beauty or originality, the Rena Max does not sacrifice aesthetics for practicality. Whether you like this monolithic look or not, it must be acknowledged that there has been genuine design research.

This surprising two-wheeler was imagined by Ian Callum’s team, a well-known figure among automobile enthusiasts. The 67-year-old Scot has designed numerous cars – for Aston Martin, Ford, and Jaguar, among others – before launching his own design and engineering company.

Up to 150 km range

Technically, the Rena Max features a removable battery to bypass charging time issues (replacing an empty battery with a full one usually takes only a few seconds). With a capacity of 5.6 kWh, it offers an estimated range of about 150 km, according to the manufacturer. The motor delivers 9 kW power, and the top speed reaches 97 km/h. The scooter has a reverse gear and multiple driving modes. It also features an 8-inch touchscreen placed above the traditional instrument cluster.

This scooter is as futuristic as it is practical.

Practical aspects have obviously not been overlooked, with a refrigerated compartment at the front and additional storage space integrated into the scooter’s structure. A 79-liter delivery box can also be mounted at the rear, on the designated support.

The Rena Max is expected to begin production by the end of the year. It seems unlikely to be seen weaving through the streets of our cities, as Barq appears to mainly want to focus on North Africa / Middle East regions.
