Record delivery for Mercedes of 5,000 electric vans to Amazon

Mercedes Vans is set to deliver nearly 5,000 100% electric vans to Amazon, intended for its delivery partners in Europe.

This operation marks the largest order of electric commercial vehicles ever recorded by Mercedes. Among the delivered vehicles, about 75% will be eSprinter models, while the remaining quarter will consist of eVito models. Deliveries will take place over the coming months and will involve five European countries, including France, with a significant share (over 2,500 vehicles) allocated to Germany. These vehicles will be made available to Amazon’s independent delivery partners, known as “Delivery Service Partners” (DSP), and are expected to facilitate the distribution of over 200 million packages per year.

This partnership is part of a long-term collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and Amazon in sustainable mobility. Since 2020, over 1,800 eVito and eSprinter vans have already been integrated into the delivery network of the e-commerce giant. At the same time, Mercedes-Benz joined that year the climate initiative “The Climate Pledge” launched by Amazon and Global Optimism.

The Crucial Challenge of the Last Mile

For Mercedes-Benz Vans, these electric models are designed to meet the demands of urban professional transport, combining efficiency, range, and loading space. The eVito, assembled in Vitoria, Spain, is intended for last-mile transport, with a range of up to 480 km (WLTP), while the eSprinter, manufactured in Düsseldorf, offers a loading volume of up to 14 m³ for a gross vehicle weight of 4.25 tons.

These commercial vehicles come standard with the MBUX multimedia system, intelligent navigation functions, and enhanced driving assistance systems. The models intended for Amazon have also been custom fitted with optimized storage solutions and partitions tailored for delivery logistics.
