The Golf GTE Hybrid is more powerful than the GTI!

Volkswagen opens ordering for its flagship hybrid model, the sporty Golf GTE.

The new Golf GTE benefits from an optimized plug-in hybrid technology and numerous improved features. With a power of 272 hp (200 kW), it even manages to surpass the 265 hp (195 kW) of the new Golf GTI thanks to its additional electric power.

Although unmistakably sporty, the Golf GTE can also be environmentally friendly with an electric range that can reach 131 kilometers. Its hood houses a 1.5-liter engine (1.5 TSI evo2) with a turbocharger variable geometry, supported by a new 19.7 kWh battery compared to 10.6 kWh for the previous generation. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a six-speed gearbox specially designed for plug-in hybrid drive systems.

A Golf at the Heart of Batteries

The battery can be charged from a standard home wallbox and other AC charging points with a maximum power of 11 kW, up from 3.6 kW previously. Additionally, the GTE can now be recharged at fast DC charging stations up to 50 kW.

Inside the cabin, the Golf GTE emphasizes its sporty character with sport seats featuring the legendary tartan pattern, a multifunction leather sports steering wheel, and decorative trims for the dashboard and front door panels. Even electrified, the GTI spirit is well maintained.

With 272 hp and a 131-kilometer range, the GTE might be the biggest winner in the new Golf lineup. It is offered from 53,130 euros.
