Is the Tesla Cybertruck Designed for Induction Charging?

Tesla is moving cautiously on the subject of induction charging, but it seems that the Cybertruck will be easily compatible.

This will be THE major technological advancement and thus the commercial argument of tomorrow: no longer having to handle cables. Often heavy, dirty, and bulky in the trunk.

Tesla is trying to stand out from the competition, and quickly. The idea of parking in the most conventional way, above a charging station, and having the charging start automatically is appealing. However, there are still technical limitations to overcome, as induction charging can be detrimental to a smartphone, for example.

On a car, the technology would be different, far less heat-generating and more efficient. Experts estimate that an efficiency of 95% compared to an electric cable is already achievable. Potentially, the charging would thus be slightly slower, but during a stop at a rest area, the time saved on plugging in would translate into a recovered charging rate. So ultimately, it would be very comparable.

The Cybertruck pre-equipped

Tesla bought, then sold after only a few weeks, a German specialist in induction charging. Was the time spent to absorb all its expertise? Initially not communicating anything, Tesla eventually acknowledged that its Cybertruck was its first vehicle pre-equipped to receive induction charging.

A very curious Cybertruck owner discovered connectors under the car where an accessory could connect, interfacing magnetically with a charging station that would be on the ground. This solution could be a true “game changer” in the electric transition. The installation of these stations in parking lots, at home as well as at work or the supermarket, and their maintenance in the face of rampant incivility, will be far less costly in the long run.

Finally, the paradigm shift in relation to the very similar fuel nozzle of combustion engine vehicles would be crucial in modernizing electric cars.
