Tesla Model Y: small update in Australia, coming soon to France?

In the absence of a profound evolution, the Tesla Model Y benefits from a slight stylistic boost in Australia.

All ideas are currently valid to maintain its position as a leader in the global automotive market. With Tesla’s sales down 8.5% in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, the Model Y remains a very precarious best-seller for the American manufacturer.

All the foundations of the business rely on this key asset Model Y. If it falls, the entire structure will collapse. Therefore, it is essential to hold on, come what may, until the arrival of our consumer products. The likelihood of seeing the famous $25,000 car appear soon has been significantly diminished despite Elon Musk’s denials. The priority given to the launch of Robotaxi, a nascent market, does not make things any more reassuring.

To establish a car in the long term, design is an element that must be carefully considered. Thus, in Australia, Tesla has introduced a small commercial argument that can make an impact: wheel covers.

Thus, the new models of Tesla Model Y Propulsion delivered down under now feature new black and anthracite wheel covers. A slight gain in sportiness at zero cost for Tesla.

One might reasonably wonder when this design touch will arrive on models sold in Europe. Is it waiting for the entire stock of unattractive gray wheel covers to be sold out? Tesla is treading carefully, as it must not also frustrate its American customers, who are already jealous of having to wait over six months after China and Europe for the arrival of the new Model 3.

Tesla had responded that the United States had enjoyed the Cybertruck first as a consolation… except the interest in the electric pickup is minimal in other markets.

In Australia, the Model Y also now benefits from two new colors and generous discounts: -900 euros on the Propulsion, -3300 euros on the Long Range, and -5100 euros on the Performance.

For reference, the Tesla Model Y starts at 63,900 Australian dollars in the land of kangaroos, about 38,700 euros, which is just slightly cheaper than in France (38,990 euros with discounts and ecological bonuses). However, the VAT in Australia is 10%, compared to 20% in France.

The Long Range versions (44,200 euros versus 51,900 euros in France) and Performance (50,300 euros versus 57,990 euros in France) are, conversely, much more affordable.
