RER NG finally arrives on Line D
This page is translated from the original post "Le RER NG arrive enfin sur la Ligne D" in French.

A welcome support for the longest line in the network, which welcomes over 630,000 passengers daily.
After years of necessary work to adapt the rail infrastructure, Line D of the RER is now operational. Since December 18, 2024, the first RER NG trains (for New Generation) have been running on the line, significantly improving the travel experience for users. Ultimately, 148 RER NG trains will gradually equip Line D. These modern trains, consisting of 7 cars, provide a more pleasant environment over the 194 km route, from north to south of Île-de-France.
You may have already traveled on the RER NG, on Line E. It is a train designed, both in terms of overall architecture and interior design, to optimize capacity and passenger flow, offering a 20% increase in passenger capacity compared to the previous generation of RER trains on Line D.

With its entirely open design, the RER NG is the first “boA” RER (without separation between cars), allowing passengers to spread out and circulate throughout the train, avoiding localized crowds that slow boarding and alighting at stops. Another innovation designed to optimize boarding and alighting in stations: doors with wide openings of nearly 2 meters.

But before these new, wider, and heavier trains could operate, SNCF Réseau and Gares & Connexions had to undertake years of adaptation work. Reinforcing century-old metal bridges, redesigning electrical systems, modernizing signaling, equipping garages… and also adapting 36 stations to fit the dimensions of the new trains.
