Volta Trucks Zero

Volta Trucks has just received homologation for its electric truck. A key milestone for the Swedish startup, which will enable it to launch production.

Since its inception in 2019, Volta Trucks has been working on a 16-ton fully electric. After a lengthy testing phase, partly conducted at the Linas-Montlhéry Autodrome and in the city of Paris, the vehicle has now been duly homologated by the relevant European authorities. Passing this milestone allows Volta to prepare for the commercial launch of the Zero. Production is expected to begin at the start of the second quarter of 2023, slightly delayed from initial plans. It will take place in Austria, at a factory operated by Steyr.

“We have developed an entirely new vehicle from a clean sheet. The fact that the Volta Zero passed these rigorous and demanding tests so quickly is a real testament to our engineering and development teams”, declared Essa Al-Saleh, CEO of Volta Trucks.

Volta Zero, an electric truck more suited for city use

The Volta Zero measures 9.46 meters in length and offers a payload capacity of 8,600 kg. Designed primarily for urban deliveries, it has a range of between 150 and 200 km. Its top speed is limited to 90 km/h. The large glass surfaces of the cab and the centrally positioned driving seat theoretically ensure optimal visibility and thus reduce the risk of accidents. Overall, Volta claims to have paid particular attention to safety. The startup even aims to become the safest commercial vehicle manufacturer on the market.

The lineup of the Swedish electric truck will subsequently expand. Versions of 7.5, 12, and 18 tonnes will support the Zero 16 tonnes. Currently, the company states it has received around 6,500 orders for its various models. 300 firm orders have already been placed for the 16-ton version.
