It seems that Volta Trucks is on track to succeed in its gamble. Commercially, the truck manufacturer has already met its targets for the year.

After raising more than €360 million since its founding in 2019, Volta Trucks is ready to get down to business. The Swedish company is expected to begin production of its electric truck at the start of the second quarter of 2023, at a plant located in Steyr (Austria). Demand appears to be there, with more than 300 firm orders already registered.

“This covers a significant portion of our production goals for 2023, even before customers have tested the trucks”, rejoiced Essa Al-Saleh, CEO of Volta Trucks. Financially, these orders will allow Volta Trucks to generate €85 million in revenue. The identities of the clients have not been disclosed.

In total, Volta Trucks claims to have received 6,500 pre-orders for its Zero. This number, which might seem quite impressive at first glance, should be taken with caution. Firstly because it is provided by the manufacturer, and secondly because a pre-order does not automatically convert into a firm order.

Volta Trucks on the streets of Paris

Designed for urban delivery, the Zero from Volta Trucks displays an autonomy between 150 and 200 km. The driver’s seat is positioned in the center of the cabin to provide better visibility for the person behind the wheel.

In Paris, Volta Trucks has created a delivery platform with Cake, a manufacturer of electric two-wheelers also based in Sweden. The Volta Zero acts as a micro-platform, transporting goods and Cake’s electric mopeds from the warehouse to the outskirts of the capital. The mopeds then take over to handle last-mile deliveries. The service is set to be launched in the first quarter of 2023 with the H&M group.
