Tesla Roadster: a fighter jet cockpit to activate the thrusters
A fighter jet cockpit, a pressure gauge, and a “Boost Ready” indicator: Tesla reveals the interface of its future Roadster.
At Tesla, monitoring your battery is no longer enough. In a 34-second video released on October 23, the manufacturer showcases the screen of the new Roadster. Against a black background, red graphics and a three-dimensional silhouette compose an interface inspired by military aviation. But one detail immediately catches the eye: the indication “Thruster · 5,500 PSI,” accompanied by a reassuring “Boost Ready.” This corresponds to about 379 bars displayed for the thruster system. Note: this value visible on the screen does not, by itself, confirm its maximum pressure.
The rest resembles a true cockpit for the track. Timers, lap layouts, brake and engine temperatures, tire pressure and temperature: information abounds. The driver can also select four aerodynamic configurations, adjust brake balance, and deactivate electronic aids. The rear wing itself can be adjusted from the digital representation of the car.
Fans before the thrusters
Behind this staging, Tesla announces a particular technical combination. The Performance version combines active aerodynamics and suction under the car to generate downforce, even when stationary. The Thrust variant adds cold gas thrusters at the rear, aiming for under one second to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph, or about 97 km/h.
More radical, the Rocket features peripheral thrusters enabling vertical movements and rotations. It sacrifices passenger space, and Tesla specifies that it is not allowed on public roads.
The eternal question of timing remains. Initially presented in 2017, the Roadster is now aiming for production in 2028. Its screen already displays “ready.” Customers, however, are still waiting for the start.
