Brumaire Bets on the Longtail

The electric scooter manufacturer opens a new chapter in its young history by unveiling its first bicycle.

To replace the car for short trips, the bicycle is a much cheaper and especially eco-friendly solution. But it must be feasible for families. The sector of extended bikes – or Longtail – and cargo bikes is filled with new manufacturers and models. Here is the proof, with the Brumaire Nebula.

The second month of the French Republican calendar, Brumaire derives its name from October and November mists. Nebula, on the other hand, refers to a celestial object made of dust. Mist and dust—strange associations for a two-wheeler that is both practical and playful in nature. We will ask Emile Sautet, the founder of the brand, about the reasons for these choices, but let’s return to our long-tailed bicycle.

Brumaire has chosen reliability and rationality for the bike’s dynamic components, equipped with a Bafang pedal-assist motor and Shimano transmission. Renowned, proven products that are also very easy to maintain and repair if needed. A great point.

This Longtail is intended for family use with its three seats and 180 kg payload capacity, including 80 kg on the rear platform. The aluminum alloy frame is simple but elegant and houses the 36V 12.5Ah (450Wh) battery. A small size of 3kg promises a range of up to 80 km. As usual, this is very ambitious, but it’s rare to cover more than 50 km on a single charge with such a vehicle and load. It’s sufficient, and that’s enough for us.

The strong point of this vehicle is its customization. With 6 colors and many options, it is easy to create a unique bike:

Regarding pricing, it’s impossible not to compare with the benchmark Btwin Velocargo R500E from Decathlon. The latter is better motorized, more durable, and has a very appreciated front suspension for city use. Better equipped, indeed, but also more expensive at €2,999 compared to €2,690 for the Brumaire. The difference isn’t huge, but it’s enough to make this well-thought French cycle not only competitive but especially desirable.
