Mocci vélo électrique

Chain with derailleur, single-speed or belt drive, the electric bike already offers several transmission options. Wanting to go further, Mocci relies on a cable-driven electric system.

To operate, the Mocci “SPV2” electric bike does not connect the pedaling directly to the rear wheel. Everything functions without a chain, nor a belt drive, thus no direct transmission! This results in a lighter weight and requires no maintenance. The startup estimates that this bike uses 30% fewer components compared to a traditional e-bike.

For this bike, Mocci combines a generator in the crankset, transforming the energy into electricity to power the hub motor in the rear wheel, or the battery. If the needed torque is low, pedaling alone suffices. If it’s high, such as at higher speeds or uphill, the battery supplies additional electricity to the motor. Mocci thus defines itself as a Smart Pedal Vehicle, or an intelligent pedal-powered vehicle.

A versatile or even utility Mocci bike

The system features an open-frame electric bike, but with a very enclosed body, somewhat like a scooter. The Mocci is equipped with 24-inch polyamide wheels and can serve as a traditional pedal-assist bike, but its large rear luggage rack makes it a potential utility for everyday use or professionals. Saddlebags, a box, or a basket can carry up to 40 kg at the rear (totaling 160 kg including the rider). The brand has even designed a trailer to increase the bike’s capacity by 60 kg, with a box measuring 60 x 80 cm.

There is no yet release date or retail price for this bike, developed and manufactured in Germany, produced sporadically in a few hundred units since last year.
