Michael Blast Outsider MX: the electric bike that looks like a motorcycle

Michael Blast’s brand unveils a new model of its Outsider bike, now available as “MX” with increased power and more leisure-oriented.
Michael Blast is not the name of an American athlete but the name of an electric bike brand. Created by Frenchman Cédric Sylvestre, it first appeared in Australia before expanding to the United States and China, where it established itself in 2014. The models eventually arrived in France in 2022, including the original Greaser, the Vacay, and the latest Outsider. But they all share a common point—they don’t look like bicycles but like motorcycles. The Greaser draws inspiration from the “board track” racing of the 1910s-1920s, the Vacay a 70s cruiser, and the Outsider resembles a small Scrambler.
A bike with the look of a Scrambler and motocross
For 2023, Michael Blast launches a new version of its Outsider, which they presented to us this week. Named MX, it takes inspiration from motocross, with a reinforced frame, and features front suspension with KKE 60 mm and rear suspension with Rockshox 45 mm. A significant upgrade in comfort for those already familiar with the model.
The Outsider MX also sports 20-inch wheels with double-walled rims and CST all-terrain tires, a front LED light, and will feature more enveloping fenders than the model shown in the photos. Because this unique model will undergo slight updates but will retain the spirit of the other Outsiders, with options for the seat, a battery cover mimicking vintage motorcycle tanks (similar to the Noordung), and color choices.
Is the Michael Blast Outsider MX cheaper than Super73?
Regarding the battery, it has an enormous capacity of 960 Wh, operating at 48 V, and is removable like most electric bikes. An optional second battery can be stored in the front of the frame, with a lower capacity. Limited to 250 W, the Bafang motor delivers around 85 Nm of torque, necessary to push the bike. The Michael Blast Outsider MX weighs 34 kg with its battery, 10 kg more than a standard bike. The unit also integrates two automatic gears.

It nevertheless promises an autonomy of 60 km in mode 5 and up to 120 km in mode 1. Five assistance modes in total, which vary the electric assist depending on needs and/or terrain slope.
Available for order from January 18, deliveries will begin on June 15, 2023. The brand still manufactures in China but has confirmed plans to relocate to Portugal. This is unlikely to significantly affect the price, set at €3,490 at launch, making it less expensive than its competitor Super73 S2 (€3,990).
