Skoda 4×4: Uncompromising Traction
Skoda is deploying today the widest 4×4 offering in its history, covering both thermal and 100% electric models.
Skoda Auto is consolidating its expertise in all-wheel drive with an extensive range that includes the Octavia, Superb, Karoq, Kodiaq, as well as the electric Elroq and Enyaq.
These technologies enhance traction, stability, and safety on wet, snowy, or unpaved roads, while maintaining a good level of comfort and efficiency. On thermal engines, the new generation of electronically controlled multi-plate clutches is integrated into the vehicle systems. It allows for quick and progressive management of torque distribution. The control unit continuously analyzes sensor data (wheel speed, steering angle, longitudinal and lateral accelerations) and adjusts the transmission in a few milliseconds at the first signs of loss of grip. This system optimizes traction in corners, improves stability, and reduces fuel consumption by prioritizing front-wheel drive when sufficient.
The Electric Simplicity
The 4×4 versions of the Elroq and Enyaq are based on a two-motor independent electric architecture: a synchronous permanent magnet motor at the rear for high everyday efficiency, and an asynchronous motor at the front for immediate power assistance when needed. Without a driveshaft or mechanical linkage, electronic coordination ensures instant response and preserved efficiency. Combined power reaches 340 hp in certain RS versions. By 2025, around 7,000 Elroq 4×4 and over 30,000 Enyaq 4×4 units were delivered, with particularly strong demand in Germany, Norway, and Switzerland.
The Kodiaq 4×4 remains a benchmark for towing (up to 2.5 tons) with the 2.0 TDI 193 hp and 2.0 TSI 265 hp RS. The Superb 4×4 (2.0 TDI 193 hp) is offered in Combi variant. The Octavia 4×4 (2.0 TSI 204 hp) is mostly chosen in Combi form in alpine and northern regions. The Karoq 4×4 (2.0 TDI 150 hp) includes off-road mode and descent assistance.
