The new Tiguan now available as a Plug-in Hybrid

The successful small SUV from Volkswagen expands its range with the highly anticipated addition of a plug-in hybrid version.

With over half a million units produced annually, the Tiguan is now Volkswagen’s best-selling model. Complementing the launch of the new Tiguan, the plug-in hybrid versions, available in two power variants, 150 kW and 200 kW, are now orderable.

Volkswagen is not doing small-scale electrification with two models delivering a combined power of 150 kW  (204 hp) and 200 kW (272 hp). With a claimed range of 120 km, the SUV displays an electric autonomy nearly twice that of the previous model thanks to a battery with a net capacity of 19.7 kWh. Volkswagen has paired an 85 kW electric motor with a new 1.5-liter turbo TSI petrol engine delivering 110 kW or 130 kW.

The batteries of both models can be recharged at up to 11 kW (compared to 3.6 kW previously) on a domestic power outlet or wall box, and up to 50 kW⁶ on rapid charging stations in DC (direct current).

Electrified and Intelligent Tiguan

A new digital instrument cluster and the IDA voice assistant are among the new features. The latter relies on an online database and, for the very first time, on ChatGPT, the AI-powered conversational robot. Driver assistance systems have also been optimized. For the first time on the Tiguan, the new Park Assist parking aid system can memorize recurring parking maneuvers to repeat them autonomously over distances of more than 50 meters. It can thus manage entry and exit maneuvers of parking spots via a smartphone.

The Tiguan eHybrid, equipped with a 204 hp rechargeable hybrid engine, can be configured starting at 53,550 euros in Life Plus trim.

The Tiguan eHybrid with 200 kW (272 hp) is available from the Elegance trim and can be configured starting at 60,800 euros.
