The Ford Kuga at a Cut Price

It is not always easy to accommodate two generations of the same vehicle in the catalog. At Ford, they prefer to clear out the past.

Ford presented its new refreshed Ford Kuga at the beginning of the year. The design of the new model, revised both outside and inside, is at best consensual, at worst bland. Only the Active X trim raises the level with a more adventurous style.

An evolution that does not at all make the previous generation look outdated, which will remain in the catalog for a few more months to clear out stock. If you are not desperately looking to drive the newest model, there are some very good deals to be had.

Ford has decided to focus on plug-in hybrid powertrains. To compare as fairly as possible, let’s take one of the most interesting models in the range, the ST-Line X trim with its nice body kit, 360° camera, Bang & Olufsen audio system, and electric front seats. Under the hood, we choose the 2.5 Duratec Hybrid FlexiFuel engine. This choice is not trivial as Ford is, for a little while longer, one of the only manufacturers to offer Flex engines as standard that accept Superethanol E85. This fuel contains between 60% and 85% bioethanol by volume, with the remainder being unleaded gasoline 95. It has the significant advantage of being twice as cheap at the pump as unleaded 95, which, combined with hybridization, offers the promise of nice savings. The limited CO2 emissions of 116 g/km also exempt it from any penalty. It is listed at the catalog price of 44,490 euros in a new not-so-discreet but rather cheerful green outfit. Ford announces a small discount of 4,000 euros, but to get this you must find a model already in stock or trade in a vehicle.

Now let’s turn to its equivalent in the previous model year. Same ST-Line X trim, but this time in a stunning Abyss Blue paint combined with the black grille of the ST-Line trim. The first oddity is that its catalog price is higher than that of the 2024 model. This is partly due to a slightly more substantial equipment, which is often the case with models at the end of their life cycle. But this time, the discount applies without issue since by definition this car can only be in stock! Our proud Kuga is therefore listed at 37,300 euros after the discount. And rest assured that the negotiation is just getting started since these vehicles need to be cleared out quickly to make room. You can already find models for less than 35,000 euros at some dealerships!
