A hybrid SUV for 15,000 euros with a range of 1,240 km — interested?

To immediately calm the complainers, let’s clarify that this is a Chinese SUV, produced in China, sold in China at a subsidized Chinese price.

No need to scream that the price comparison with European SUVs is impossible because it’s completely true. Still, should we act as if such cars didn’t exist? Its study is interesting because it’s completely crazy to offer such technology at such a low price. If the Chinese exception becomes the global rule, a true revolution is underway.

The Galaxy L7 EM-i by Geely is by no means a small car disguised as an SUV like the Dacia Spring because it displays generous dimensions with 4,710 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, and 1,685 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,785 mm. Cherry on top, with a curb weight of 1,890 kg, it’s not even a horribly heavy and dangerous SUV by Paris City Hall standards.

An Intelligent SUV in More Ways Than One

A particularly appreciated feature, the Galaxy L7 EM-i is available in two configurations favoring either petrol or electric power for similar prices:

• 1.5L naturally aspirated gasoline engine producing 82 kW (110 hp) and 136 Nm, paired with an electric motor of 160 kW (215 hp) and 262 Nm, and an 18.4 kWh LFP battery offering 115 km of electric range.
• 1.5 Turbo gasoline engine of 120 kW (161 hp) and 255 Nm, coupled with an electric motor of 107 kW (143 hp) and 338 Nm, and an 18.7 kWh LFP battery also providing 115 km of electric range.

The WLTC consumption varies from 1.05 to 1.3 L/100 km, and the total range reaches 1,240 km. Fast charging allows going from 30% to 80% in 20 minutes, while slow charging takes between 2.7 and 3 hours.

The smart interior is richly equipped, featuring very ingenious ventilated seats that recline at 120°. Passengers are welcomed by a 10.25-inch LCD dashboard, a 13.2-inch central screen, and a 16.2-inch entertainment display. All are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8155 processor, which is set to be replaced in the future by Geely’s Dragon Eagle-1 once it reaches maturity.

The Geely Galaxy L7 EM-i was officially launched on February 14 within a narrow price range of 115,800 to 148,800 yuan, approximately 14,700 to 18,800 euros. Even at double its Chinese price, this car outperforms almost all hybrid SUVs produced by European manufacturers today. That’s why one should not limit their view to Europe alone but broaden it to understand the current automotive industry and anticipate that of tomorrow. Without complaining, of course.
