Citroën: A Slightly Cheaper Plug-in Hybrid C5 X

The Citroën C5 X can now be ordered with a 180 hp plug-in hybrid package.

Citroën introduces a new 180 hp hybrid version in the C5 X lineup, replacing the same power PureTech gasoline engine. This powertrain, already widely used within the Stellantis group, combines a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with 150 hp and an 81 kW electric motor. The electric motor is connected to a 12.4 kWh battery which, in theory, guarantees an electric range of 62 km. A full recharge takes 1 hour and 40 minutes with a 7.4 kW charger.

The 180 hp plug-in hybrid C5 X is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It can reach a speed of 135 km/h in electric mode. The hydraulic bump stops suspension, a Citroën hallmark, comes standard.

The introduction of this powertrain makes hybrid options more accessible on the C5 X. Prices start at €48,700 in Feel Pack trim and go up to €51,300 in Shine trim. For a comparable level of equipment, this is €1,900 less than the 225 hp hybrid.

In terms of equipment, the C5 X debuts the Highway Driver Assist 2.0 driver assistance system. With this system, the car detects upcoming speed changes and suggests automatic adjustments. It is also capable of semi-automatic lane changes between 70 and 180 km/h. The Highway Driver Assist 2.0 is reserved for the top-tier Shine Pack trim.

Something new also for the C4

The C4 and its electric version benefit from an update to their infotainment system. Described as more intuitive and ergonomic, the new interface also offers higher-quality graphics. Following this update, the C4 also features a voice assistant and no longer requires a smartphone connection for screen duplication. Lastly, a small new feature for both the C4 and e-C4: the introduction of a black roof option, allowing for a two-tone color scheme.
