The used Tesla battery market is expanding

The spare parts market Tesla is booming as the reparability of electric vehicles remains an issue.

Nothing is wasted, everything is recycled. This is essentially the lesson to be learned from the quickly developing spare parts market surrounding the Tesla brand. The vehicle fleet currently in circulation in Europe and beyond is very large. Accidents and technical issues also occur, sometimes requiring the replacement of entire components.

Electric motors, voltage converters, pumps, etc., a car has thousands of parts. All of these can now be found on specialized websites where independent garages can source their parts. Much like with combustion engine cars, not everyone can afford to repair their vehicles with new parts. And even more so when it comes to batteries…

One of the most well-known marketplaces is EVshop.eu, where you can find absolutely everything, including complete battery packs. Here is a 100 kWh version for a Tesla Model S Plaid priced at 21,990 euros – on discount to 18,691 euros! –, another of 85 kWh at 13,590 euros, or even a 75 kWh Tesla Model 3 for 5,999 euros.

The prices vary dramatically depending on their usage duration. Two other factors to consider: these prices are displayed excluding VAT and shipping costs.

For instance, a Tesla Model S Plaid battery weighs 479 kg, and shipping costs are about 599 euros, bringing the total to approximately 22,841 euros. For a Tesla Model 3 battery, the final price comes to roughly 7,740 euros including taxes. We understand here that the technology differs significantly between these two models, although the stored energy is not that far apart.

The reuse of batteries from damaged electric cars makes sense in the 21st century; the question is no longer whether this approach is commendable but whether prices will decrease. And if garages haven’t yet found a new way to exploit owners’ disbelief, whether their cars are electric or combustion engine.
