MG MGB Frontline Bee

The restomod specialist Frontline Cars has taken on the 1960s MG MGB GT with an electric conversion.

This electric conversion based on the MG MGB features the unique combination of an electric motor paired with a fully functional manual transmission.

The instantaneous torque of the electric motor allows the Bee to start and stop on any of its five gears without stalling, as a conventional combustion engine might. Moreover, this MG can be driven exclusively in second and third gear if you prefer. Well, it’s pretty much pointless, but why not…

Inside, the Bee replaces the needle tachometer of the MGB with a completely redesigned display indicating the amount of energy used by the motor or recovered during deceleration phases. The range is shown on the fuel gauge.

The Bee is significantly lighter than most electric sports cars. While an Abarth 500e weighs 1410 kg, the converted MG weighs only 1186 kg, evenly distributed across each axle. The styling modifications are equally subtle, with period Dunlop tires and a more aggressive front splitter. It’s available both as a coupe and as a roadster, the latter dropping the “GT” designation.
