An electric Chevrolet Camaro is on the way

General Motors is seriously considering reviving its historic Pony Car in a 100% electric version.

Before shouting sacrilege and the assassination of the Camaro spirit, imagine a fun car that isn’t too expensive and has a striking look and a story. This could become a reality as General Motors President Mark Reuss has stated that he is considering relaunching the Camaro, embodying the true pony car spirit, at a price below $35,000. The only concession to our times would be that it would be a 100% electric model like the brand’s latest SUV, the highly successful Equinox EV.

One thing is certain, the current Camaro will bid farewell at the end of 2024 after a rather disappointing career given its ambitions. Fans of American racing know that the Camaro is the model engaged in the premier championship, NASCAR. This 75-year-old institution is preparing to introduce a fully electric sub-series that would provide a great media platform for such a model. The recent shift by Ford with the Mustang Mach-E has certainly given ideas to Detroit’s major rival, which could well create a Camaro sub-brand allowing for various iterations of the name. GM has a deadly tool for this, its native electric platform Ultium, already used for the Blazer, Equinox, Silverado, Cadillac LYRIQ, and even the GMC Hummer EV. In terms of versatility, it doesn’t get much better!

GM has indeed not yet decided whether it will be a car or a multi-segment vehicle. More surprisingly, it is not yet certain that it will be a strict two-door as one might imagine. However, do not rule out a high-performance variant in the coming years. After all, the Hummer EV produces well over 1,000 horsepower.
