Opel’s Most Powerful Electric Car Ever Fails to Impress…

Opel Mokka GSE

With the Mokka GSE, Opel promises families power and dynamism. But where is the thrill?

With the new Mokka GSE, Opel answers an unavoidable trend: the overboosted electric SUV. The German manufacturer signs here its most powerful production electric model ever, with 207 kW (281 hp), 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h. A respectable spec sheet, certainly, but it also illustrates a paradox. Performance has never been so accessible, while seeming more remote.

Thanks to electric propulsion, obtaining and especially mastering power is now child’s play. The Mokka GSE, with its instantaneous 345 Nm torque, its Torsen limited-slip differential and its hydraulic dampers, bears witness to undeniable technological know-how. But these figures are not enough to make the heart beat. Like many sporty electric SUVs, it impresses more than it moves, trading former mechanical ardor and lightness for flawless digital efficiency.

At least this Mokka has character

On the design side, Opel deserves a good mark. The Mokka GSE displays a confident look with its yellow brake calipers, its specific wheels and GSE inserts. The interior is just as sporty, with Alcantara seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel and aluminum pedals. The overall style follows the brand’s “Detox” philosophy: no chrome, recycled materials and a steering wheel made from plant-based material. This design work even earned it the title of “Best Design Innovation 2025”.

The Mokka GSE completes an already very full range: Mokka Electric (115 kW, 403 km range), Mokka Hybrid (145 hp, 48 V technology) and petrol version (136 hp). Everyone can thus choose their balance between efficiency, style and sensations.

But this multiplication of sporty electric SUVs raises questions. The race for power, made so simple by electrification, tends to homogenize sensations. One can only hope that someday sportiness will rediscover the taste for lightness, precision and vitality. While waiting for a manufacturer to adopt that view, or if that’s not your preference, you can always be tempted by this Mokka offered at €46,500. A steep bill that can, however, be trimmed to €36,700, with a CEE bonus of €4,750 and a trade-in offer of €5,050 deducted.
