The electric vehicle charging network recorded over 2,400 new charging points. An improvement compared to previous months and years?
Last month, France welcomed 2,414 charging points. Infrastructure for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles continues to advance. In total, the Avere-France barometer now reports 66,960 charging points in France as of July 31, 2022, compared to 64,548 at the end of June.
A steady evolution
After a lull this winter, with fewer than 800 points installed in January and only 1,057 in February according to the barometer. In March, the momentum resumed with over 2,000 points, but a ceiling seems to have been reached since then. In July, the charging network expanded almost exactly as in June (2,410 points).
Even 2021 experienced more tumultuous months, with September setting a record at 2,776 charges. However, the following October saw only 828 additional points in the infrastructure… On average, 2022 sees about 1,900 charging points installed each month, an increase compared to last year (1,744 on average). A slow progression, considering that more than 100,000 electric cars have been registered since the start of the year. However, let’s stay optimistic—the current number of points is more than double that of 2020. What about the different types of connectors?

173 new fast charging points
At the end of July 2022, Avere-France reported 3,840 fast charging points (over 50 kW). This is 173 more than in June, a breakthrough thanks to the requirement for highway rest areas to offer fast chargers. Some are also taking the initiative to install ultra-fast chargers like Fastned, as well as supermarket parking lots such as Carrefour.
Charging points, however, remain largely below 22 kW in power. It is noted that 55% of them, nearly 38,000, deliver between 7 and 22 kW at most. Under 7 kW, which can be called slow charging, comparable to home chargers, the barometer records 35%, or 23,500 points.
