Occitanie: TER tickets at €1 on the first weekends of the month

Available during the summer, €1 tickets on TER trains in Occitanie will be available to everyone on the first Saturdays and Sundays of each month.

To compete with cars, a French region is multiplying initiatives. Occitanie will extend its €1 train offer starting December to promote travel on TER lines with liO trains. “This green measure protects purchasing power and makes daily mobility easier” announces Carole Delga, President of the Occitanie Region.

When to take advantage of a €1 train in Occitanie?

Previously, this measure only applied on summer weekends for everyone. But from June to September, young people could already benefit from €1 tickets every day. Another occasional measure, liO train lines offered this deal during October 15, 16, 22, and 23, in response to fuel shortages. According to the region, attendance was even record-breaking during the first of the two weekends, with 131,000 travelers, five times the usual number.

Now, Occitanie is opening this symbolic fare to everyone on the first weekends of each month, starting December 3 and 4, 2022. But not only, the region will also apply €1 trains during pollution peaks. This cheap train measure will align with the values of the Atmo Occitanie Observatory (recall: 31 days in 2021, 26 in 2022). Here is a reminder of the periods for €1 Tickets:

• First weekends of the month excluding July-August (new)
• Summer weekends
• Polls of pollution (new)
• From July 14 to August 15 for young people
• Occasionally during the year depending on train occupancy

The goal is clear: reach 100,000 travelers per day by 2030. A milestone Occitanie has already surpassed 5 times this year, but the current average is around 70,000 people, up 53% compared to 2019.

Occitanie Carpooling Aid

Additionally, a new carpooling subsidy complements mobility options. This Occitanie carpooling bonus is €0.10/km up to €2 per trip. The region states that it can be combined with the Sustainable Mobility Package, but it must be used through one of the five apps listed below:

• Karos
• Klaxit
• Mobicoop
