Restyled Range Rover Velar: What’s New for the Plug-in Hybrid?

Six years after its launch, the Range Rover Velar receives a slight facelift. On this occasion, the plug-in hybrid version is upgraded with a new battery.

Range Rover has just unveiled the facelifted version of the Velar. In terms of appearance, the changes are subtle. At the front, the designers have slightly modified the grille and the architecture of the LED headlights. The rear section changes at the lower part of the bodywork, which now conceals the exhaust outlets. The lighting signature also evolves. Two new body colors are added to the palette (a blue and a metallic gray). As for the interior, Range Rover announces the introduction of new materials and redesigned seats. The facelifted Velar also debuts the brand’s new infotainment system, accessible via an 11.4-inch touchscreen. This screen is now positioned slightly higher on the center console. It includes apps like Deezer and Spotify and responds to voice commands through the Alexa assistant.

A plug-in hybrid Velar with increased range

On the technical side, this new model year of the Velar sees the range of its plug-in hybrid version increase by a few kilometers. An improvement achieved after installing a new battery with a capacity of 19.2 kWh (previously 17.1 kWh). The electric range of the vehicle is now estimated at 64 km according to the WLTP mixed cycle. The hybrid system still features a 300 hp four-cylinder petrol engine. Together, the powertrain delivers 404 hp and 640 Nm of torque. When connected to an appropriate charger, the Velar accepts up to 50 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 0 to 80% in about thirty minutes.

The prices for the facelifted Range Rover Velar have not yet been announced. Currently, the plug-in hybrid version starts at €75,600.
