We previously discussed the resurgence of Mitsubishi (read our article on Mitsubishi). After a period of obscurity, the diamond brand has new ambitions, especially in the plug-in hybrid segment. But the Japanese manufacturer is also known for its utility models such as the Mitsubishi Canter, produced since 1963. Thanks to partnerships with the Italians of Fiat and Iveco, it initially featured diesel combustion engines, such as a turbocharged and air-cooled F1C DOHC4 FPT diesel block with 175 hp.
While this engine could be retained in certain markets, the demand for electric models is growing stronger. Mitsubishi has thus studied the issue and today unveils the Fuso eCanter, born from a partnership with the German company Daimler.
Several variants are available. The “base” model starts at 4.25 tons, but remains accessible to B license holders. Why? Simply because the law allows the weight of the batteries to be deducted on electric models. Thus, the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) can be less than 3.5 tons! Depending on the configuration, it features an electric motor of 110 kW on the rear axle, which can be increased to 129 kW on the 8.55-ton model. Sufficient power.

Regarding batteries, they are placed under the chassis to optimize space. The 4.25-ton version (accessible with a B license), uses a 41.3 kWh pack providing a range of 70 km. The Fuso eCanter also offers 82.6 kWh units (140 km) and 123.9 kWh units (200 km). The latter two versions require a heavy vehicle license.
For charging, options vary. The 11 kW charger is available on the smaller version, then a 22 kW charger on larger models. Finally, a fast charger capable of up to 104 kW is offered.
Good news, prices are already known. The Mitsubishi Fuso eCanter is sold from €90,571 excluding tax in a narrow cab version with a single battery pack, then €105,371 excluding tax with a standard cab and two battery packs, and finally €160,000 excluding tax for the largest and most powerful model.
