The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class (2024) Steps Up Its Game

The iconic German roadster Mercedes E-Class is making a comeback, aiming to be both more comfortable and more technological. It also heavily features plug-in hybrid powertrains.

Although its origins are much farther back, the first Mercedes E-Class officially debuted in 1993, with the facelift of the Type W124 sedan. Three decades later, the German roadster has maintained its aura in the traditional sedan segment, even though conventional customers have shifted to SUVs. It remains very popular among taxis and ride-sharing services eagerly awaiting this new, solid-wheel edition.

Compared to the current generation, the Mercedes E-Class has increased in length by two centimeters, now measuring 4.95 meters, and in width by three centimeters, now at 1.88 meters. Mercedes also revised the wheelbase, which gains two centimeters to reach 2.96 meters. This should result in a slight increase in interior space, especially for rear passengers, with dimensions close to those of its big sister, the Mercedes S-Class. However, the trunk remains unchanged, offering a generous volume of 540 liters.

Inside, the Mercedes E-Class now features a massive multimedia screen based on the Superscreen technology. The 3D effect is expected to be striking, along with numerous customization options and the ability to watch videos as if in a living room! The Mercedes E-Class also offers a conference call mode with the vehicle stationary, ideal for business people!

Very Significant Electric Range

Under the hood, the E-Class remains loyal to mild-hybrid combustion engines, but the highlight involves the new plug-in hybrid motors with high electric range, such as:

• Mercedes E-Class 300e: 313 hp and up to 118 km electric range
• Mercedes E-Class 400e: 381 hp and up to 111 km electric range

Note that diesel plug-in hybrids are also planned and are expected to be launched a few months after the new Mercedes E-Class, which is anticipated to arrive in summer 2023.
