Bankrupt Again

The story was nonetheless a beautiful one. Since its creation in 2019, Volta Trucks was working on a fully electric truck. After a lengthy testing phase, partly conducted at the Linas-Montlhéry autodrome and in the city of Paris, a first vehicle was duly approved by the relevant European authorities. The Volta Zero, measuring 9.46 meters long, offered a payload of 8,600 kg. Designed for urban deliveries, it had an autonomy ranging between 150 and 200 km.
Reaching this milestone allowed Volta to open its order book, notably with Petit Forestier, a leading French company in the refrigerated truck sector. Production was supposed to start at the beginning of the second quarter of 2023, but accumulating delays left many questions unanswered. Despite a final hope when the company announced an event around Oktoberfest, the celebration was short-lived.
Ultimately, the decision was made, and the board could only announce the end of this promising venture: “It is with deep and sincere regret that the Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to initiate bankruptcy proceedings.”
The fierce competition among major players on the 100% electric market, Mercedes, MAN, and Iveco, to name a few, leaves little room for such initiatives. Tesla’s aggressive push into this new market has also shattered all standards of autonomy and certainly pricing.
