Tesla Is Going Crazy Over Its Option Prices

Jantes Tesla Model 3

We continue our little world tour of Tesla’s offered options by focusing today on wheels.

In a previous episode, we observed an endless variety of prices for paint colors despite a limited offering that included neutral white, universal gray, elegant but stain-prone black, understated blue, and the flamboyant but somewhat conspicuous red. Five of the most sold colors worldwide that make up Tesla’s offered range.

This desire to limit options has always been Tesla’s hallmark. While other manufacturers drown consumers in a flood of choices regarding motors, finishes, colors, and of course wheel formats, the American manufacturer advocates sobriety to prioritize the vehicle’s qualities.

Let’s take the Tesla Model 3 as a reference, now produced in Fremont, California for the American continent, and in Shanghai, China for Asian and European markets.

In France, the new Model 3 comes standard with 18-inch Photon wheels with dynamic covers. The only available option is the Nova 19-inch model offered at 1,190 euros.

In the United States, there are no Photon wheels but Aero Wheels on the older model. Only the covers change, from 7 to 5 spokes. The Novas become Sport Wheels and are offered at $1,500, about 200 euros more expensive than in France, even though they are mounted locally and do not leave American borders! Cheers!!! A small thought for our poor Canadian cousins who only get the standard 18-inch wheels. We don’t know what they did wrong to be denied options…

In China, these 19-inch wheels are logically available for only 6,000 Yuan, just over 750 euros. They are manufactured locally, and ultimately, they are just accessories, so the price is justified.

Now let’s return to our beloved continent. In France, the Nova 19-inch model is offered at 1,190 euros. In Spain and Sweden, the option costs 1,600 euros. In Belgium, Germany, Italy, or the United Kingdom, it will cost you 1,700 euros. The final heavyweight goes to one of the countries most committed to energy transition and a significant Tesla customer, Denmark, with a price of 1,800 euros (13,500 kroner).

Once again, Tesla has provided us with particularly good options.
