NAMX HUV

NAMX chooses internal combustion engine (ICE) for its hydrogen-powered HUV model expected in 2027.

Founded by Faouzi ANNAJAH and Thomas de LUSSAC, NAMX is an automotive company specializing in hydrogen. Through a proprietary system of removable hydrogen capsules, NAMX aims to enable a new experience of clean mobility, freed from the constraints traditionally associated with decarbonized travel. Designed to meet a variety of future uses, the capsules will initially power the HUV, the hydrogen combustion SUV developed by NAMX, with its first deliveries scheduled for 2027.

According to NAMX, hydrogen-powered internal combustion vehicles (HICE) do not have the main disadvantages of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCEV), which require metals and rare earth elements for their manufacturing. Hydrogen internal combustion engines also offer greater robustness and better durability in use compared to fuel cells. While fuel cells require very pure hydrogen, necessitating regular replacement of air and hydrogen filters, internal combustion engines tolerate less pure and cheaper hydrogen.

The collaboration with PININFARINA, which began in 2022 for the development of the HUV design, continues in this market approach phase. Leveraging PININFARINA’s expertise, NAMX has reworked the design of the initial HUV concept to include a new more aerodynamic rear bumper and an exhaust system made necessary by hydrogen combustion — the “EXO”.

After its presentation at PININFARINA’s headquarters in Cambiano, Italy, NAMX showcased the prototype of its hydrogen SUV at several prestigious events (Berlin GreenTech Festival 2022, Paris Motor Show 2022, Goodwood Festival of Speed 2023). NAMX has now completed the validation of its prototype for the HUV and is entering the industrial development phase.
