TOYOTA RACING TR LH2

Toyota’s hydrogen program reached a new milestone on Thursday, June 11, in the morning with the first laps of the TOYOTA RACING TR LH2 prototype on the Circuit de la Sarthe.

After several years of development and various demonstrations of hydrogen vehicles, Toyota now presents a true race prototype powered by liquid hydrogen.

The TR LH2 will perform its first public demonstrations this Thursday at 12:50 PM and then on Saturday, June 13, at 12:45 PM, kicking off the festivities of the 94th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Based on the same chassis as the Toyota Racing TR010 Hybrid Hypercar entered this year in the renowned race, this technological demonstrator aims to accelerate the development of hydrogen technologies applied to motorsport.

A rich hydrogen lineage

By taking to the track in front of the Sarthe audience, the prototype will allow spectators to experience the sound and dynamic characteristics of a combustion engine running on hydrogen. This initiative is part of Toyota’s strategy to develop both vehicles, infrastructures, and the ecosystem necessary for the growth of this energy in motorsport and beyond.

The manufacturer’s commitment to this path dates back to 2021 with the participation of the GR Corolla H2 Concept in the Japanese Super Taikyu championship events. Initially powered by gaseous hydrogen, the car later evolved towards technology using liquid hydrogen. Toyota has also significantly increased demonstrations in rallying with the GR Yaris H2 and GR Yaris Rally2 H2.

At Le Mans, this approach has been reflected through several successive presentations, from the GR H2 Racing Concept in 2023 to the GR LH2 Racing Concept in 2025. The TR LH2 today marks a new concrete advancement by becoming Toyota’s first liquid hydrogen race prototype to publicly race on the 24 Hours of Le Mans track.
