The plug-in hybrid models from DS automatically activate Electric mode in low emission zones (LEZ).

This application, called Geofencing, which equips the latest hybrids from DS, responds to the deployment of low emission zones throughout Europe. Locally, these zones aim to restrict the circulation of the most polluting vehicles through gradual restrictions.

On the E-TENSE plug-in hybrid powertrains of the DS 4, DS 7, and DS 9, which account for nearly 40%, 60%, and 90% of sales for each model in Europe (2023 data), Geofencing optimizes the use of different energy sources to reduce the environmental impact of a trip. As the vehicle approaches a low emission zone, the driver is alerted, and upon entering the defined area, Electric mode is automatically selected if the remaining battery energy is sufficient.

The low emission zone is then identified by a green area and an icon on the connected navigation system’s map.

Currently, twelve “LEZ” are in effect in France: in Paris, Aix-Marseille, Lyon, Toulouse, Nice, Montpellier, Reims, Saint-Etienne, Grenoble, Clermont-Ferrand, and Rouen. About thirty other localities plan to join this list. In Europe, around ten countries have equivalent restrictions.

A passive mode is also available on 100% electric, gasoline, diesel, and hybrid engines to alert drivers of low emission zones, offering an alternative route if the journey goes beyond the concerned area.
