The new MG EHS unveiled in 10 days!

MG has confirmed the presentation of the new EHS at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 11. What should we expect?

MG has decided to celebrate its 100th anniversary this year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Founded in the UK in 1924 by William Morris under the name Morris Garages, MG has come a long and tumultuous way that should have led it straight into the abyss of oblivion. But in 2007, the Chinese group SAIC, sensing a good opportunity, acquired the moribund brand and made MG its Trojan horse to conquer European markets. This success is due as much to the allure of the manufacturer as to a smart range that covers the entire spectrum of powertrains, from combustion with the ZS to electric with the MG4, MG5, and Marvel R, including hybrid with the EHS.

Launched three years ago in the European market, the Anglo-Chinese EHS SUV has been less successful than its electric cousins. This is due to a market for plug-in hybrid powertrains that is already mature in Europe. A facelift in 2023 allowed it to continue its career, but it was time for a truly new model. Lucky chance or well-timed schedule, likely a bit of both, hybrids are once again trending as the frenzy around 100% electric models decreases in intensity.

Directly derived from the 100% electric HS not imported to France, the new plug-in hybrid EHS is expected to receive a larger battery, potentially doubling the current electric range to nearly 100 km. Furthermore, the new powertrain is reported to have significantly more combined power than the current 258 hp.

But the biggest change will undoubtedly be aesthetic. The short video released this morning by MG Motor UK hints at lines quite close to those of the very successful Marvel R. The lighting signature moves away from that of the early Chinese MGs to resemble what can be seen on its little hybrid sister, the MG3.

If the proportions seem very balanced, the question remains of the pricing strategy, which must be just as balanced. The EHS currently starts at 30,490 euros with a little boost of 5,000 euros from the manufacturer. It’s not an expert opinion to say that it should not be much higher…
