BYD has unveiled the Seal 07 DM-i, its new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) equipped with fifth-generation in-house DM technology. While BYD is mainly known in France for its push into the 100% electric vehicle market, the Chinese manufacturer remains the world’s leading seller of electrified vehicles. It goes without saying that hybrid technology holds no secrets for its thousands of engineers.

The most remarkable feature of the Seal 07 DM-i is its powertrain, which heavily emphasizes electric power. It is offered in two options: a 1.5-liter engine producing 100 hp combined with a 160 kW (215 hp) electric motor for the lighter versions, and a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine delivering 150 hp paired with a 200 kW (270 hp) electric motor for the sporty variant. When the electric motor produces more power than the internal combustion engine, one can consider the combustion engine as auxiliary power. The world is changing.

Large Range at Low Price. BYD Has It Figured Out

But the key figure is, of course, the combined range of 2,000 km. Don’t be mistaken, you won’t travel more than 100 km in 100% electric mode, but the in-house “Blade” LFP batteries allow for a fuel consumption of 3.4 l/100 km. In summary, in the city, you will only drive electrically, and on the highway, you won’t fear running out of charge. Isn’t life beautiful?
