30% discount on the strange Mazda MX-30 hybrid!

The Mazda MX-30 with range extender pays for its technological eccentricity with fairly low sales. Hence, significant promotions.

Specializing in the rotary engine, Mazda was eager to revive this architecture showcased by the legendary RX-7, which won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1991. Too polluting, the rotary engine disappeared from Mazda’s lineup in 2012 with the discontinuation of the RX-8 coupe. It has thus made a comeback in 2023 on a vehicle that is initially… electric!

It’s the Mazda MX-30 that inherited it, but not to directly drive the wheels. The 74 hp rotary engine only serves as a generator to power the small 17.8 kWh battery. With an all-electric range limited to 85 km, it is therefore the hybrid system that prevails for covering greater distances. One must really dislike simplicity to develop such technology. The electric unit ultimately delivers 125 kW (170 hp) and a torque of 260 Nm. Weighing in at 1,778 kg, performance is understandably disappointing with a 0 to 100 km/h in 9.1 seconds and a top speed limited to 140 km/h.

Mazda cultivates its difference

Thanks to the 50-liter tank, Mazda announces a total range of 680 km, with an optimized consumption of 7.35 l/100 km. Nothing exceptional for a technology that has never achieved good results in terms of energy efficiency, but a range that is more than sufficient to cope with all situations.

Some dealerships now have examples of this vehicle, perhaps too divisive, with very attractive discounts. This is the case with this MX-30R-EV SKYACTIV170 in the MAKOTO trim. It is listed at a catalog price of 43,450 euros, which seems strangely optimistic since, with the Soul Red Crystal paint option, we find it at 45,650 euros on the Mazda online configurator! In our opinion, this is the best trim that offers everything one might expect from a car well-suited for its time. With the exceptional discount of 30%, the price plummets to 29,990 euros! Enough to make one forget the vibrations of the combustion engine and enjoy a car that you are unlikely to see often on the street.
