Finally, a real new Mitsubishi, unfortunately without prices!
This page is translated from the original post "Enfin un vrai nouveau Mitsubishi, hélas sans tarifs !" in French.

Mitsubishi has presented the 4th generation of its flagship Outlander model equipped with plug-in hybrid technology.
And good news, this Mitsubishi that we have been waiting for 18 months does not seem to be a clone of a Renault model. This was the case for the last two models marketed by the Japanese manufacturer, the SUV ASX based on the Renault Captur and the new Colt, a revamped Clio. All that was missing was this third hybrid model that took a while to arrive but does not disappoint with its rugged look and lines that evoke Mitsubishi’s heritage and the famous SUV Pajero.

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV plug-in hybrid is a large SUV measuring 4,719 mm long, 1,862 mm wide, and 1,750 mm high. It relies on a powertrain that combines a four-cylinder gasoline engine and two electric motors, all paired with an electrically controlled transmission. The electric power is up by about 40% compared to the previous generation model, and the battery now has a total capacity of 22.7 kWh. According to the WLTP standard, the 100% electric mode offers a maximum range of 86 km thanks to a standard heat pump.
A Mitsubishi hybrid at all levels
The front electric motor produces 85 kW/255 Nm, while the one at the rear claims 100 kW/195 Nm. The thermal unit of 2,360 cc does its part with 100 kW/203 Nm working in tandem with its electrified counterparts to provide a combined power of 225 kW, that is 302 horsepower and a very generous torque.

However, there is a small disappointment with the absence of a 7-seater version in the European market, which was a real advantage of the previous generation. This is a strange choice as it closes off a customer base, albeit niche, but still significant. One could think this is meant to optimize loading space, but with only 498 liters of trunk volume and 1,425 liters with the rear seats folded down, it’s not exceptional for a vehicle of this size. It remains to be seen what the prices of this beautiful vehicle will be to know if it can carve out a place in the sun or further plunge the brand with three diamonds into an undeserving anonymity of its glorious past.
