Volkswagen Tayron

Just revealed and not yet showcased at the Paris Motor Show, the Volkswagen Tayron is already available for order.

Large SUV with five to seven seats, the Tayron fills the gap left by the discontinuation of the Tiguan Allspace, unless it’s just a new name? Absolutely not, as Volkswagen claims it shares no body parts with the Tiguan. Therefore, it is a standalone model with its own personality and not an elongated Tiguan as the Allspace was. It’s a shame they look so similar… In its base version, it can accommodate a sixth and seventh passenger or 885 liters of luggage. In France, it comes in three engine options, including two plug-in hybrid versions. The latter offers up to 126 km of 100% electric driving and can cover up to 850 km between refuels.

Four trim levels are available: the entry-level “Life Plus,” the special edition “VW Edition” known for its good price-equipment ratio, the sporty “R-Line,” and the high-end “R-Line Exclusive.” Later on, Volkswagen will offer an “Elegance” trim that combines comfort and technology, positioned between the “R-Line” and “R-Line Exclusive” trims, as well as a 2.0 TDI Diesel engine with 110 kW (150 hp).

The launch deal, as is now customary at Volkswagen, is the Tayron “VW Edition,” starting at 49,800 euros. It is offered at a price 1,100 euros lower than the “Life Plus” trim while providing additional standard equipment: metallic paint, LED Plus headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a design package including anodized roof rails as well as acoustic and tinted rear windows. However, with the accumulated environmental and weight penalties, its petrol engine with 150 horsepower offered at this price is honestly of no interest whatsoever. It’s better to wait for a hypothetical mild hybrid or to settle for the 204 horsepower hybrid that starts at 56,200 euros. The living space comes at a high price…
