Twingo E-Tech Electric

Renault unveiled the interior and some technical details of the Twingo E-Tech Electric at the Brussels Motor Show.

This show car previews the design principles of the future Twingo, expected in 2026, inspired by the heritage of the original Twingo, an iconic model that made a lasting impression in 1992 with its simplicity and ingenuity. Renault has attempted to renew the model since then, but has never achieved the success—and especially the cleverness—of the true Twingo, which remains to this day the only genuine version. So, is the switch to electric the long-awaited breakthrough?

First and foremost, the smartest move is to mirror the criticized aesthetic of the legendary icon. Paradoxical, but clever, as it immediately identifies the model as a Twingo. The interior features some stylistic elements from the era but aims to be intuitive and functional, much like its predecessor. The suspended, minimalist dashboard, equipped with modern digital screens, provides a user-friendly and connected experience. Clever details, such as practical storage beneath the dashboard and accessible space between the front seats, meet daily needs. Modularity remains central with a sliding rear bench seat that folds 50/50, allowing the space to be adapted to various urban living situations.

The upholstery and materials also evoke the first generation, with colorful patterns and innovations such as a tinted cork flooring, both sustainable and original. Designers have added playful touches, including humorous messages scattered throughout the interior, reinforcing the mischievous identity of the Twingo.

The prototype presented in Brussels has been improved in functionality since its first showcase at the Paris Motor Show 2024, including the addition of a concealed air intake and aesthetic adjustments, indicating a well-advanced development process. It’s not just a concept, as Renault announced its commercialization in less than two years! Built on the AmpR Small platform and manufactured in Europe, the upcoming Twingo will be offered at a competitive price, under 20,000 euros.

It’s still early to tell if this still-just-a-prototype can become a real Twingo, but unlike the disappointing Renault 4, the signs are mostly positive… frog.
